Holy Bones
This was an editorial design for a travel article I had written on my experiences of visiting various catacombs and ossuaries in Italy, France, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
All images were based on original photography (additional credit to Simon Dewar) and modified in Adobe Photoshop to give them a dark, graphic novel look. I wanted to keep the sinister side of the images but take away the reality of them which sometimes puts people off looking at bones.
Inspiration for the title came from Sedlec Ossuary in Kutna Hora, CZ, where the artist has signed his name in bones. Being fascinated with typography I was eager to use this in a design project.
