I design and maintain my own web based portfolio on this site. I have kept my own website to display my writing and design work for the last six years. Seventeenandinsane.com is the latest incarnation of these.
The original design was very simple and was built using CSS and HTML with a flash intro (see Flash design portfolio). The site design also features photography of some of the simple things in life that make me smile - like my cats.
However, version one has always been a bit of a work in progress that I hoped would evolve with my experience so I am currently working on version two (bottom right) which is slightly more challenging in both design and build.
This design for the new site was inspired by my own mess of a desk, where I do most of my work. It includes a few of my favourite things: my Smith Corona typewriter, stationery and coffee. I am always scribbling down ideas, sketching and cutting and pasting interesting things that I find so I wanted to reflect this in the design by creating a sort of journal effect. I also have a particular thing about handwriting and typewritten fonts so I included handwritten headings and tabs, plus a typewriter font courtesy of dafont.com.
The heading fonts and icons were all drawn by hand, scanned and their weight and colour modified using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
